Vegetable Garden

This month we are learning about gardens. This week we are learning about vegetables in a garden.

One day, we started the day by reading Jack and the Giant Bean Stalk. The girls helped me tell the story by using the story pieces, sent from Mother Goose Time. I asked questions about the story to check for comprehension. The students liked using the story pieces to retell the story.

Another activity we did was review lowercase and uppercase letters. The students had to find matches. Once they found a match they put them together on our letter vine. This was a great way to review letters and to see which letters we need to practice more.

For art one of the days, we read the story Stone soup and made our own pot of vegetable soup. The students cut out their own vegetables that they wanted in their soup and glued on their own pasta pieces. The students thought the pasta was so cool. It was letter and number pasta. They would pick up a piece of pasta and say, “This is the letter B.” Or they would say to their friends, “I want to find the letter R for my pasta. Can you help me find it?” It was another great way to review letters and numbers.

The last activity we did for one of these days was play dominoes. It was fun watching the kids try to find a match and work together. They would get excited for each other when they were able to lay down a tile.

This has been a fun week. We only have one more week before summer! This year went by so fast. I am so proud of these students and how much they have accomplished this year.

** I receive curriculum from Mother Goose Time for honest and authentic stories resulting from my daily experiences using the curriculum. This is my 2nd year using Mother Goose Time, and I am pleased to promote quality educational learning experiences through play with Mother Goose Time!
