We took a few weeks off last month because we had a new addition to our family.
Our newest member…
We are so in love!! And the preschool students love to have him join in with the class.
Our theme last month was Blast Off to Space. We had a lot of fun doing crafts, pretending to be astronauts, and learning about the different planets in our Solar System.
One of our favorite subjects is Creative Arts. Mother Goose Time incorporates a variety of creative art activities throughout the month.
Dramatic play is important in child development because it helps students explore ideas and try out new roles. This month we explored being astronauts. I encouraged the students to explore the idea of gravity by pretending to float on the moon. We pretended that we were in space on a rocket ship looking down on the Earth. We explored being astronomers and pretended to discover a new planet. Dramatic play also helps children build friendships by playing together and showing common interests. It helps children express their emotions in a safe way.
Dance and Movement activities
Movement is important in child development because it helps students connect concepts to action and helps them learn through trial and error. Movement encourages students to explore the world around them. Most of the activities from Mother Goose Time have a movement portion at the beginning of the lesson. Students are encouraged to explore math manipulatives. Letters are introduced through movement games. The students are focused, they are practicing math and literacy skills, and they are having fun all at the same time.
Some of the art projects we do are “Make and Play” crafts, where the students are usually just putting together a prop for dramatic play later on, and “Invitation to Create” crafts, where the students look at a picture and are prompted to come up with their own picture based on the topic of the day. Art is important to child development because it helps students be creative. Instead of telling a student how to do something and what it should look like, the students take ownership of their artwork and make their own decisions for how they want it to look. Art helps students develop their ability to solve problems on their own. Art is also a precursor to writing in that students scribble lines and shapes, and they practice using different mediums which will develop their fine motor skills.
Creative Art is important in child development because it can boost a child’s self-esteem giving them the confidence they need to explore new ideas and experiment with different materials. Creative Art is essential in children’s growth allowing them to express themselves openly.
** I receive curriculum from Mother Goose Time for honest and authentic stories resulting from my daily experiences using the curriculum. This is my 3rd year using Mother Goose Time, and I am pleased to promote quality educational learning experiences through play with Mother Goose Time!
